Fall is the season of cozy sweaters, cool crisp air, and warm cozy drinks. These fall-themed hot cocoa bombs are the perfect way to get into the fall spirit! They’re a festive treat and so delicious melted in a cup of hot milk.
How to Make Your Own Hot Cocoa Bombs
Let me walk you through the process of creating your very own fall hot cocoa bombs that are perfect for sipping on a chilly fall day.
Ingredients You’ll Need for Your Hot Cocoa Bombs
- Salted caramel candy melts
- Hot cocoa mix (flavor of your choice) I recommend chocolate or caramel!
- Mini marshmallows
- Fall-themed sprinkles or decorations (edible leaves, edible gold dust, etc.)
- Silicone half-sphere molds
- Piping bag
- Fall themed cupcake liners
Instructions
Melt the Chocolate:
Begin by melting your chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 20-second intervals, stirring between each interval. Alternatively, you can use a double boiler for melting the chocolate. Be careful not to overheat the chocolate to prevent it from seizing.
Coat the Mold:
Using a small food-safe paintbrush, coat the inside of each half-sphere mold with a thin layer of melted chocolate. Make sure to cover the entire surface evenly, making sure the mold is evenly covered in chocolate. Place the mold in the refrigerator for a few minutes to allow the chocolate to set.
Create the Shells:
Once the first layer of chocolate has set, repeat the process to create a second layer, making sure to really coat the edges as this is the most fragile part. This step helps to create a sturdy shell for your hot cocoa bombs. Place the mold in the refrigerator again to set (about 5-10 minutes)
Fill and Assemble:
Carefully remove the chocolate shells from the mold. Fill one half of each shell with hot cocoa mix, mini marshmallows, and any other desired fillings. Avoid overfilling, as it may make sealing the bomb challenging.
Sealing the Bombs:
Warm a clean, dry plate or skillet slightly. Press the open edge of an empty shell onto the warm surface for a few seconds to melt the chocolate edges. Immediately place it onto a filled shell, gently pressing them together to seal the hot cocoa bomb. Wipe away excess chocolate around the edges.
Decorate:
Melt candy melts of your choice in the microwave, then pour the melted chocolate into a piping bag. Cut a small tip and drizzle over the hot cocoa bombs. Sprinkle on into the fall-themed sprinkles or decorations.
Enjoy:
To enjoy your fall hot cocoa bomb, simply place it in a mug and pour hot milk over it. Watch as the chocolate shell melts, releasing the cocoa mix and marshmallows into the milk. Stir and enjoy a warm and comforting fall treat!
